About Les Alouettes

Les Alouettes is a small school based in Colchester, Essex, which offers Saturday morning French lessons.

Learn the French language, Access the French culture

Les Alouettes was founded in September 2010 by a group of volunteer French mums living in Colchester and the surrounding areas. Their goal was to create a charity that gives children access to quality teaching of the French language and the French speaking culture.

Today, Les Alouettes is managed by a group of volunteer parents (the Committee), dedicated to maintaining this goal.

Les Alouettes is always keen to hear from parents looking to give their time and energy to the charity. If you are interested in being part of this amazing venture, please contact the Committee.

FLAM (Français LAngue Maternelle)

Les Alouettes is supported by the FLAM program. The FLAM (Français Langue Maternelle) program was founded by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2001 to help French families living abroad and to promote the use of the French language by their children.

FLAM schools are managed by volunteer parents and financially supported by the French Government. Le Parapluie FLAM (or FLAM umbrella organisation) is an association created in 2013 to ensure that all FLAM schools are consistent and united in the way they operate. The association helps new FLAM schools set up: from their creation to putting in place a structure to recruiting teachers.
